Newborn clothes: what sizes and quantities to plan for
It's tempting to buy a lot of newborn-size clothes, but many babies outgrow that size within just a few weeks.
A breakdown that works
- Newborn size (up to about 3.5 kg): 5 to 6 bodysuits and sleepsuits are plenty
- 1 month size: the most worn size in the first weeks, plan for more of these
- 3 month size: keep some in reserve, many babies reach it before turning 3 months old
The right move
It's better to plan for little in newborn size and more in the following sizes, topping up as you go. A baby's growth is hard to predict precisely before the birth.
Think about the season too
A baby born in summer will need lightweight clothes in size 3 months, while a baby born in winter will wear that same size in the cold. Match your purchases to the actual season, not just the age.
On Kickoala, you can add clothes from several brands and sizes to a single registry, making it easy to adjust as real needs become clear.
